It all started with a guy named Bernie.
Bernie Ambrose started slinging our signature thin-crust, brick-oven pizzas in the 1950s. My mom, Janet, and my dad, Joseph, met there when they were in high school. Working side by side, they fell in love, got married and started a family. That’s where I come in.
Bernie called my dad to help him out one crazy-busy night in the 1990s and my dad brought me with him. I was fifteen years old, so I was old enough to learn the ropes. It became a thing—us helping out in a pinch here and there. Then, in 2002, Bernie wanted to sell the business so my two sisters and I bought it.
Over the course of time, we all learned how to recreate Bernie’s magic in the ovens. Today, I run Bernies with the help of my mom and my boyfriend. On some nights we send more than 200 pizzas out the door. Guess what? I absolutely love every minute of it…when people want to know the secret in the sauce, that’s it.
When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll find me with my three dogs wandering through the woods or tending to my beehives. In addition to pizza I like to cook up soap. In fact, you can buy a bar or two in Bernies. It helps to get that pizza sauce off your hands 😛.
Stop in, say hi! Order up. And take home a pie of your own.
